PHNOM PENH 30 April, 2012 (Cambodia Herald) - The Club of Cambodian Journalists (CCJ)
expressed deep concern Monday over threats by a Kampot businesswoman
against Nokor Wat reporter Hok Ly.
"The threats hinder the practice of press rights, freedom of expression and democracy in Cambodia," a statement said.
CCJ said the businesswoman, Chan Sreysor, threatened the journalist by phone last Wedesday after Nokor Wat reported on her alleged gasoline smuggling in Trapeng Ropov.
Such threats prevent journalists from carrying out their professional activities, the association said.
CCJ appealed to relevant institutions and Kampot police to take immediate steps to prevent a repeat of such threats and urged the Kampot Provincial Court to investigate the case.
