Air France, the French aviation giants who operate in Cambodia, signed a deal with the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) yesterday to help sponsor the Cambodian athletes set to participation in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, which runs from July 27 to August 12.

The airline will grant tickets and cash for a two-day visit to Paris for the Olympic delegation as part of their joint promotional drive with the NOCC under the banner “My Olympic Heroes”. An official website, www.myolympicheroes.com, has also been launched.

The signing ceremony attended by representatives of 14 sports federations was held yesterday morning at NOCC headquarters and presided over by NOCC president Thong Khon, who is also the Minister of Tourism.

In his address at the ceremony, Thong Khon said: “On behalf of the NOCC and myself, I deeply thank private sector companies and their generosity to support Cambodian sports. The NOCC has currently received authorisation by the International Olympic Committee to issue four wildcard tickets [to London] to Cambodian athletes – runners and swimmers – while the disciplines we are waiting for the wildcards include taekwondo, judo, wrestling, and boxing.”

Meanwhile, NOCC General Secretary Vath Chamroeun noted that the Olympic Games was not all about winning and losing, but involved many added virtues such as friendship building, solidarity, understanding and unity.

Air France handed over US$10,000 to the NOCC yesterday with country manager Emmanuel Guillaume asserting that the company was very happy to help develop Cambodian sports.

As well as main sponsors Air France, other campaign contributors include Angkor Beer, Digi Internet, Cambodia Airports, Smart, Phibious and Match Eightball Productions.
