PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald)- ASEAN leaders are likely to discuss the situation on the Korean Peninsula when they meet in Phnom Penh next month, a senior official said Thursday.

"For sure they will discuss regional and international issues," said Soeung Ratchavy, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

"I believe that the situation on the Korean peninsula will be discussed at their retreat," she said.

The senior Cambodian official in charge of preparing for the ASEAN summit on April 3-4 also said that Foreign Minister Hor Nam Hong was expected to visit North Korea in June.

The official said the most important topics to be discussed by leaders included progress implementing the ASEAN Charter and the roadmap for the ASEAN Community to be set up in 2015.

Apart from the Korean peninsula, other regional issues expected to be discussed include the South China Sea and democratization in Myanmar.
