Vietnam News

HA NOI – The General Association of Vietnamese Cambodians (GAVC) yesterday began a project to build a school for overseas Vietnamese children in Cambodia’s Pray Veng Province.

Funded by US$115,000 from Dong Thap People’s Committee the building will have an area of 1,530 sq.m which is expected to be completed in four months, said GAVC president Chau Van Chi.

This is the second school for overseas Vietnamese children built in Cambodia, with the other located in the capital Phnom Penh.

About 600 Vietnamese children living in Pray Veng are pursuing Vietnamese language classes in different locations in Cambodia, Chi said.

The school construction project is part of efforts to help Vietnamese Cambodians maintain their mother tunge, traditions and customs, and to promote solidarity within the Vietnamese community. - VNS

If they allow this in Cambodia, I don't understand what did they do to the khmer krom in South Vietnam? Learning about our history and what's goin on in Cambodia and Vietnam nowsaday, it's so unfair. Khmer krom also need to keep our mother tongue and keep our khmer culture going as well. Tell this to the Vietnamese government!!!

Up until now, viet's has keep a low profile in cambodia. Now the cambodian people will see you are enroaching into cambodia. I hope that you viet's are successful in cambodia but i seriously doubt it. Do you know how many percentage of poor cambodian are there! Will you Viets compete with poor cambodian for jobs and lands in the future. Just like in early 1900's, there are mass starvation in Vietnam, these poor Cambodian has nothing to loose!

The Cambodian government should insist with the Viet government to allow Khmer Krom to build Khmer schools and learn the Khmer language inside Vietnam also, so it is fair. At the moment, even listening to Khmer radio or watch Khmer TV is banned by the Viet government. It is so unfair.
