PHNOM PENH(Cambodia Herald) – The situation along the Cambodia-Thai border was quiet Saturday amid expectations that Thailand would commence war games near the border in Ordor Meanchey province on Sunday, sources said.
“We don’t have any concerns about the Thai war games," said General Chhum Socheat (pictured), spokesman for the National Defense Ministry, adding that the military exercises were not expected to affect Cambodian territory.
Thailand informed Cambodia on Friday that it would hold the exercises nine kilometers from the border in Ordor Meanchey’s Banteay Ompil district.

Another round from Thai bombardment? Fox's hole can't save us this time...
It's a wait and see.
Khmer soldier should be ordered on high alert and keep a close eyes on the Siam
Last time Thai-thief used 50,000. 155mm shelling deep 25 kilometer inside our home, what should we have prepare this time..?
I agree with some of you guy above, we can't underestimate these two greedy neighbors one bit...Whats happen they used another blooming lutus with heavy tank and armors machine...though! Thai soldier still digging trench and place buddah status the same time?
In any normal country having a war exercise near any border would constitutes military aggression. But Hun Sen's government is smart enough or afraid to engage full battle with Thailand. It would only mean the demise of his government. Hun Sen would never want to lose his power.
For the Thai side. They have their hands tied too. If they act too aggressive towards Cambodia, China might intervene diplomaticly. Vietnam might have an excuse to send more soldiers back into Cambodia and claim helping its thy neighbor.
I've alway stated that having strong military is always good to protect borders. History have shown that even a small country like Israel was able to defeat a much larger (multi-arab) nations due to their intellegent military tactics and better equipments.
For one thing, they relied heavily on machanized battalion of tanks. Great tank battalions not just good. Even though they were outnumber 3 to 1, their smart military tactics became apparent.
Second, they mobilized their troops very quickly and amassed a large number of big artillery pieces along the border.
Third, their airforce were superior in terms of experiences, skills and equipment.
Last, Israel know their terrains.
As a Khmer, we can learn a lot from Israel. We can invest a lot on heavy machanized units and artillery pieces. We should also invested in a small airforce for defensive purpose at first. And then gradually move toward strong figther squardrons like those back in the 60s and 70s. Our airforces were pretty formidable.
We should also invest in protecting our sea territory by increasing our naval size.
I believe if we have all these, Thai or Viet would think twice before they conduct these kinds of exercises along our borders.
I totally agree with post 4:44AM! Cambodia has some money right now, we can do It little by little, step by step to strengthen our military equipped...Yep! Cambodia was weaken and poor military, thats why neighbors country take advantage on us..? Israel very tiny country, but very strong Military!
Cambodia has nothing to worry about the Thai. One call to Hanoi and the issue is resolved. Sorry for my CPP Youn language, but we should devote our resources to economic development. As long as we have good relationship with Vietnam, they won't let Thai mess around. Thai can start a war, but will never win over us again.
Thailand and Vietnam both are way too powerful over weak and poor cambodia today...This is why old king stick with China for backing us up?
