HA NOI — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his Thai counterpart, Yingluck Shinawatra, vowed to do their utmost to deepen comprehensive co-operation between Viet Nam and Thailand at talks in the capital held yesterday.
They met immediately after a red-carpet welcome was made for Thai PM Yingluck who was in Viet Nam on an official visit at the invitation of PM Dung.
Host and guest agreed that the two countries should promote their relations, particularly in the fields of economy, commerce, investment, education and training, healthcare and agriculture.
They exchanged ideas for measures to enhance co-operation in various fields such as joint sea patrol, crime prevention and control, and rice production and trade.
Dung proposed the two countries and the other Mekong River Commission nations should co-operate closely to use Mekong River resources effectively and sustainably for common interest and development.
Yingluck expressed thanks to Viet Nam for its assistance to Thailand during the recent flooding and proposed dealing with procedure-related difficulties to boost goods exchanges and tourism between the two countries.
She affirmed that the Thai Government was willing to co-operate with Viet Nam in energy development, rice export and tourism, and proposed the swift completion of a traffic connection between Viet Nam, Laos and Thailand including effective implementation of a co-operation mechanism.
She invited PM Dung to make an official visit to Thailand and Dung accepted her invitation with pleasure.
Later yesterday, Yingluck was received by President Truong Tan Sang who proposed the two sides continue co-ordinating closely to effectively implement established agreements as well as carry out co-operation mechanisms in the region and sub-region such as within ASEAN, the Greater Mekong Sub-region and the Ayeyawady – Chao Phraya – Mekong Economic Co-operation Strategy.
Yingluck expressed her delight at the activities held to mark the 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Viet Nam and Thailand this year.
PM Yingluck wrapped up her official visit to Ha Noi late yesterday.
