Eight unarmed Thai soldiers have entered Cambodian territory west of Choam Sra-Ngam International Checkpoint in Anlong Veng district, Oddar Meanchey province, at 3 o'clock this afternoon, 26th December, and in an attempt to dismantle a house belonging to a Cambodian villager.

Forty-six year-old Mrs Sam Rith said she built this house for a long time as a warehouse to stock and sell scrap metals and recyclables. The house was built 50 metres deep inside Cambodian territory, but Thai soldiers said it has just been built in an overlapping area recently.

After negotiation with Cambodian soldiers, those Thai soldiers returned back to the Thai side of the border at 5 p.m when Cambodian soldiers promised that they will dismantle the house by themselves.

Mr. Toch Ra, Cambodian chief of Choam Sra-Ngam Border Relation, acknowledged that the area is an overlapping area and that the house has just been built in the last 2-3 days.

Mrs. Sam Rith accused Cambodian soldiers of not protecting Cambodian citizens when they saw Thai soldiers entered Cambodian territory to dismantle her house. However, Cambodian soldiers said that they could not intervene to help her because she built the house in an overlapping area.

On 14th January 2009, 35 heavily-armed Thai soldiers entered 50 metres into Cambodian territory to stop Khmer from building a fence in the same site. Read article in Khmer at CEN.
