PHNOM PENH, (Cambodia Herald) - Defense Minister Tea Banh (pictured) said Tuesday that border talks between Cambodia and Thailand could resume next week as Thailand had verbally agreed to the dates for the talks.
"I have already sent the official invitation letter to Yuthasak Sasiprapha, the Thai defense minister, advising that we decided to resume the GBC (General Border Committee) meeting on 21-25 December," he told reporters after meeting with the visiting Lao defense minister.
Tea Banh, who is also a deputy prime minister, added that Thailand had already verbally agreed to the requested dates. "We are just waiting for the written agreement from Thailand," he said.
Since June 2008, Cambodia and Thailand have been involved in armed border clashes, especially in the area around the 11th-century Preah Vihear Temple, bringing deaths and damage to both sides.
