The Phnom Penh Post
UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Cambodia, Surya Subedi (pictured), arrives in Phnom Penh today to examine electoral processes in the country.
Subedi will meet with high-level government officials, the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights said yesterday.
Despite Subedi delivering a damning report to the Human Rights Council in Geneva in September on a polarised parliament and its strangulation of human rights in Cambodia, the government has welcomed Subedi back for an extended two-year mandate.
This is his sixth mission in Cambodia since being appointed to the role in March 2009. He has previously highlighted weaknesses in the Khmer Rouge tribunal and spoken out against the Draft Law on NGOs and Associations.
