SEOUL, (AFP) - The sister and brother-in-law of North Korea's late leader Kim Jong-Il are expected to play a major role in the transition of power to Kim's youngest son, analysts said Monday.

Jang Song-Thaek, husband of Kim Jong-Il's only sibling Kim Kyong-Hui, will play a pivotal role in wrapping up the hereditary succession to son Jong-Un following the leader's death on Saturday, they said.

South Korea's former unification minister Jeong Se-Hyun said Jang, the vice chairman of the all-powerful National Defence Commission, was likely to act as regent for Jong-Un for a while.
