Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong on Wednesday dismissed claims by former Khmer Rouge leader Nuon Chea (pictured) that the Vietnamese government was responsible for the deaths of about two million Cambodians.
"It's the claim of someone accused of genocide and crimes against humanity. But the truth is different,” he told reporters after meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart who is accompanying Communist Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong on a three-day visit to Cambodia.
In testimony at a UN-backed war crimes tribunal on Monday, Nuon Chea said the Khmer Rouge were "people who loved peace, independence, integrity and the sovereignty of the country."
He said the Khmer Rouge were "good people" and that the deaths of an estimated 1.7 to 2.2. million people were caused by Vietnam's "invasion" of Cambodia in 1979, he claimed.
Known as Brother Number Two, Nuon Chea was second in command to Pol Pot during the Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 to 1979 and also served as chairman of the Democratic Kampuchean People's Representative Assembly.
Also on trial at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia are former deputy prime minister and foreign minister Ieng Sary and former head of state Khieu Samphan.

Not shit...huh? Of course Youn behind alot of shit with Cambodia. Don't think Youn took Kampuchea Krom is the last thing they're do with Khmer. If Khmer keep believing and befriending with Youn, Khmer will eventually lose everything. What have Khmer gain from Youn since we ever known Youn? NOTHING. All the bullshit talking about closer-tie with Vietnam is basically a strategic posistioning and alignment for Hanoi to have its hand gripping Cambodia even stronger. Ah Hun Sen need to distance himself from Youn and try to make Cambodia an independence country, not have close connection to some parasite like Vietnam. Never trust that Youn enemy, ever.
