KOH KONG, (Cambodia Herald) - The Cambodian and Thai armies exchanged gunfire Thursday along the border in Koh Kong province, a military source said.

The source said the armed clash erupted at 1:45 pm in Zone 329 in Ta Min mountain after a Thai helicopter tried to land in Cambodian territory.

No injuries or deaths have been reported.

The source said the Cambodian soldiers opened fire to prevent the Thai helicopter entering Cambodia and that the Thai soldiers responded with heavy gunfire.

It was the first armed clash since Thailand's new government was formed in August.

Cambodia and Thailand had several exchanges gunfires earlier this year, causing deaths and damage to both sides. Read article in Khmer at Cambodian Express News.

The job of Army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha is safe, the rain starts falling again near the border.

It is the Thai PM that should be worried about keeping her job. Some appointments have been made within the armed forces in Thailand, but these are minor reshuffles compared to the stature and political influence of Chan-Ocha. Any rush to dislodge him is likely to provoke the anger of the conservative right in Thailand and spark off another coup against Yingluck's government.

Chan-Ocha can only be replaced with or by another like-minded person from the conservative camp.

Of course, Khmer people will support Khmer military in their defence of the mother land, but not when they are deployed as tools of rights violations or personal instruments of tycoons and crooked politicians.

Thailand is looking for other spots along the border to trigger a war dispute with Cambodia knowing that the Preah Vihear dispute is before the international and that Thailand is likely to lose. Cambodia must not be complacent about our border and Hun Sen must not try to crackdown on his critics and try to consolidate his power too much by forgetting to protect our border. Internal enemies are Cambodians and they all love Cambodia, but external enemies will destroy the whole Cambodia and the Cambodian people. It is time to unite and not divide Khmers.

I wonder, where is the unmanned plane that crashed over Cambodian territory this year, no news from that one or maybe the case is closed definitely.
