Sam Rainsy continues to compare Hun Sen to Gaddafi despite a threat from Hun Sen

Sam Rainsy, the opposition leader of the eponymous Sam Rainsy Party (SRP), has repeated his comparison between the fate of Prime Minister Hun Sen and the fate of dictator Muammar Gaddafi of Libya who was captured and killed by rebel fighters recently, despite an angry threat from Mr. Hun Sen.

Mr. Hun Sen has publicly threatened to take legal measures against all opposition politicians who continued to compare his fate with that of Gaddafi's.“The comparison is the most serious insult on my life and is most painful for me,” he told a road construction and inauguration ceremony [where]. “Comparing me to Gaddafi means an intention to kill me”.

However, Sam Rainsy is not deterred. "I have compared Hun Sen to Gaddafi and compared Hun Sen to other leaders like Ben Ali (of Tunsia) who had lost his life and was deposed from power. I wish to send the message to Hun Sen that it's better for him to consider carefully for a fate better than Gaddafi's so that he won't meet the same fate like Gaddafi", said Rainsy in a video conference on yesterday.

Mr. Rainsy had urged Mr. Hun Sen to sue him in a French court because he had made the accusation on French soil. "If Hun Sen wanted to sue me, please sue me in a French court. I urge Hun Sen to be as brave as Hor Namhong who sued me in a French court, which is an independent court. So, if he wanted to sue me, he must sue me in an independent court, not in a sham court in Cambodia", he added.

Mr. Tith Sothea, spokesman for the Quick Press Reaction Unit, said that Mr. Hun Sen is a prime minister of Cambodia and comparing him to Gaddafi is an insult and intention to kill, which is unacceptable.
