PHNOM PENH, Nov 28 (CEN) - Cambodia and Thailand will renew border talks next month after years of deadlock, National Defense Ministry spokesman Chhum Socheat (pictured) said Monday.

“The defense minister of Cambodia, as the host, will send an invitation to the defense minister in order to set the date for the GBC (General Border Committee) meeting which is scheduled for late December,” he said, adding that the invitation would be sent to the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh.

"Cambodia is now ready for the talks and we are waiting for Thailand," he said. Topics for discussion are expected to include peace and development along the border.

The talks have been frozen since repeated exchanges of gunfire broke out in 2008, bringing deaths and damage to both sides.
