The garment industry employs hundreds of thousands of Cambodian workers.
AKP Phnom Penh, November 16, 2011 –Secretary of State at the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training H.E. Mam Vannak on Tuesday said 552 garment factories have been currently operating in Cambodia.
Speaking at a press conference at the International Labor Organization Office in Phnom Penh, H.E. Mam Vannak said in the first ten months of the year, the number of garment factories in Cambodia rose to 552 from 501 last year.
The garment factories have been employing more than 300,000 workers and some 2,160 local trade unions have been registered, he said.
According to the Ministry of Commerce, in the first nine months of 2011 Cambodia exported up to US$3,132 million worth of garment.
