A 38-YEAR-OLD man was charged yesterday with human trafficking offences following allegations that he was paid to trick women into marrying unknown Chinese nationals.

Ku Yuleng allegedly used a website to introduce Cambodian women to photographs of “rich” Chinese men and persuade them to travel to the People’s Republic to marry them in order to get a better life.

However, when the women arrived in China, they were allegedly greeted by different men, said deputy director of anti human trafficking and juvenile protection of Ministry of Interior Chhiv Phally yesterday.

The Phnom Penh-based broker is suspected to have been paid up to 50,000 yuan (US$7,843) for his role in trafficking alleged victim Thoeun Sengly, whose mother complained to the Interior Ministry.

She was allegedly mistreated by the man she met and did not want to marry. Thoeun Sengly remains in China and it is believed more scammed women could be in the People’s Republic.

Ku Yuleng has been detained as Prey Sar prison and could not be reached by the Post for comment.
