A 14 year-old girl from Kampong Svay district in Kampong Thom province has survived without food for 6 days after she was drifted 40km from her home by the torrential flood that has caused great damage throughout the kingdom.

The mother of the 14 year-old girl, known only as Ky, said that on 3rd October, Ky went to pick watercress in a lake near the village but failed to return home after a strong storm and heavy rain hit the village. She reported the girl's disappearance to the police who conducted a search but failed to find her.

However, on Saturday yesterday, the 8th of October, 6 days after her disappearance, villagers found the girl drifted on a dead log 40km down the stream away from her home. The girl was emaciated, very weak and her hands and toes suffered severe injuries from blisters, but has been recovering well in the hospital.

So far, the flood in Cambodia has killed about 206 people across Cambodia and damaged thousands of homes and hectares of crops.
