America provinded $330 million in aid to Cambodia

In the past 8 years, the United States has provided $330 million in aid to Cambodia, mostly in the fields of education, health, poverty alleviation.

Yesterday, 25th October, the representative of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has signed a 10th agreement with Cambodia's Foreign Minister Hor Namhong to provide another $30 million to Cambodia to fund the education and health sectors. "The American aid is very importance for the health and education sectors, especially in the rural areas, as a contribution to the alleviation of poverty which is a first priority of the Cambodian government", said Foreign Minister Hor Namhong after the signing ceremony.

According to a statement from the U.S embassy, the U.S has agreed to provide $30.93 million in the health sector, $1.55 million for the education sector to help boost enrollment in primary school level and $2.94 million for other sectors.

The statement also said that, in 2011, USAID had already provided $64.87 million to Cambodia to fund the health sector and other fields such as in human rights, the rule of laws, good governance, decentralisation, natural resources management, economic growth and anti-human trafficking.

The signing of the agreement between USAID representative and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong was witnessed by the U.S charge d'affaires, Mr. Jeff Daigle.
