Duong Kea, whose house in Boeung Kak Lake was demolished during the eviction on 16th September, was summoned by the court prosecutor, Sok Yoeun, to appear before the Phnom Penh Court, on charges of "insults" and "threats" filed by Chhay Thirith.

The charges related to the forced evictions on 16th September in which his house, along with other 7 houses of Boeung Kak Lake residents, were forcibly demolished by Shukaku company. During the demolition, Duong Kea was beaten and Suong Sophorn, an opposition activists who tried to protect people's homes, was beaten unconscious by the police. He only escaped death by using his hands to protect his head when someone or a policeman dropped a big brick on his head while he fell to the ground.

On Tuesday, 4th October, Duong Kea and other residents had lodged a lawsuit with the Phnom Penh Court against authority and Shukaku Inc, seeking $24,000 compensation for the demolition of their homes.

The court has not processed Duong Kea's lawsuit yet, but instead summoned him to appear before the court from a minor complaint of "insults" and "threats" lodged by Chhay Thirith, whose role in the demolition is unknown. Read the court summon here.
