At least six villagers died and 52 others were being treated at hospital after they drank local-made liquor, which is suspicious of poisonous substance contamination, police said Thursday.
The accident happened on Wednesday night in Mort Prey village in Pursat province in western Cambodia, said Bin Vanna, police chief of Krokor district.
He said that the victims bought about 60 liters of rice wine to drink after a villager's funeral.
"After they drank the wine, they felt dizzy and vomit," he said. "Six died at hospital."
He said that three of the 52 victims are in critical condition.
"At first, we suspect that the wine is contaminated with poison, then we send it for laboratory examination," he said.
PS: The latest reports revealed that the number of poisoning victims sent to hospital has increased to 60, but the number of dead remained at 6.
On 19th September, John Flint David, aged 50, a British-born English-language professor at Battambang University, died of alcohol poisoning in Battambang city while drinking with friends.

លោកបន្តថា រហូតមកទល់ពេលល្ងាចថ្ងៃទី០៦ អ្នកពុលស្រាស បានកើនប្រហែលជា៦០នាក់ហើយ ប៉ុន្តអ្នកស្លាប់នៅដដែល ហើយក៏មានអ្នកពុលស្រា បានចូលមកសម្រាក់នៅក្នុងមន្ទីរពេទ្យខេត្តជាហូរហែរ ។
គួរបញ្ជាក់ថា មនុស្សប្រុស-ស្រី ៦នាក់ បានស្លាប់ និង៥២នាក់មកសម្រាកព្យាបាលនៅមន្ទីរពេទ្យខេត្ត បន្ទាប់ពីជនរងគ្រោះទាំងអស់ បាននាគ្នាផឹកស្រាស នៅពិធីបុណ្យសពមួយក្នុងភូមិមាត់ព្រៃ ឃុំកំពង់ពោធិ៍ ស្រុកក្រគរ ខេត្តពោធិ៍សាត់ កាលពីយប់ថ្ងៃ០៥ ខែតុលា ឆ្នាំ២០១១ ។
អធិការនគរបាលស្រុកក្រគរ លោក ប៊ិន វណ្ណា បានប្រាប់មជ្ឈមណ្ឌលព័ត៌មានដើមអម្ពិល នៅព្រឹកថ្ងៃទី០៦ ខែតុលា ថា កាលពីយប់ថ្ងៃទី០៥ មានករណីពុលស្រាស នៅក្នុងភូមិកើតហេតខាងលើ បណ្តាលឲ្យស្លាប់៦នាក់ ក្នុងនោះមានស្រី២នាក់ និង៥២នាក់ កំពុងសម្រាកព្យាបាលនៅមន្ទីពេទ្យខេត្ត ។

ជនរងគ្រោះឈ្មោះ ក្រូច ធា អាយុ ៤២ឆ្នាំ ដែលកំពុងសម្រាកព្យាបាលនៅមន្ទីរពេទ្យ បានឲ្យដឹងថា នៅយប់កើតហេតុរូបគាត់ និងជនរងគ្រោះដទៃទៀត បាននាំគ្នាទៅកំដរសពគេ នៅក្នុងភូមិកើតហេតុខាងលើ ហើយបាននាំគ្នាផឹកស្រាសអស់៦០លីត្រ ។ លុះផឹកបានមួយសន្ទុះក្រោយមកស្រាប់តែមានអាការៈងងឹតមុខ ស្រវាំងភ្នែក និងក្អួតចង្អោរតែម្តងទៅ ។

This alcohol poisoning is not new in Cambodia.It happened In 1999 in PP's Dangkor District and some other provinces. The test of the Alcohol made by the Laboratory revealed the presence of the Alcohol Methylic(Ch3-OH)which is very toxic..CH3 destroys the optic nerve and causes heart failure.That's why the victims lost the eyesight and have chest pain before they die.
MOH should learn about the past. Education of the people is the only mean to prevent this disater.
It's time the authority takes action against home wine-makers. They are very irresponsible, they added too much pesticides to make the wine strong, but often the wine killed the drinkers. This is not the first time, but hundredth time already. The authority should ban all home wine-makers, otherwise more people will be killed. The wine-makers, if caught to have added too much poison, must be severely punished.
I think ah Yuon put poison, in the wine, they try to kill Khmer the best they can so they can bring these people to take our land in the future. If we don't get rid of this slave CPP regimes motherfucker Khmer will vanish from the world soon.
Look at these guys are young people..? They should not drink home made white wine...You seen old, adault people drinking white wine, not young people??
Cambodian Govt/Authority should band young people from drinking!!...They must be 21 years old, I'v seen lots of young cambodian young men drinking at age 15,16,17 in cambodia today...Especially those construction workers...
