A VOLUNTEER from Seaford has been praised for her efforts abroad.

Sarah Chhin, a member of Seaford Baptist Church, served as a volunteer Christian Development Worker with Cambodia Action.

She is the project manager for Project SKY, whose aim is to provide support and ensure the social inclusion of young adult orphans out of orphanages and into communities.

Between January and June this year, the project helped the lives of more than 900 people including young people living in orphanages, orphanage directors, village chiefs and community members.

Sarah has been working closely with the Royal Government of Cambodia since 2003 and was instrumental in drafting Cambodia’s Minimum Standards for Residential Care.

She was praised by his Excellency Keo Borentr, of the Royal Government of Cambodia, at a recent meeting who said, “I have known Sarah Chhin since I was director general of the Technical Directorate for the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, and I would like to announce to everyone here that it is because of Sarah Chhin that our country has minimum standards for residential care.”

Sarah added, “It has been my honour and privilege to work alongside the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, seeing the country work towards best practices in alternative care and putting the emphasis on the importance of family and community in the lives of all children.”
