Khmer psych-rockers The Cambodian Space Project are in the country for the first ever UK shows. Arriving here last week from Phnom Penh, the band thrilled the crowd at last weekends End of The Road festival before heading to London for an instore at Rough Trade East. They have three remaining London shows at The Good Ship, Brixton's Windmill and 'Dancing Time With Soundway' at Netil House on Saturday.
The Cambodian Space Project will be unleashing their debut LP, 2011: A Space Odysessy, on the UK next week and are offering a free download of their track 'Mean Visa Kmean Bai (Have Visa, No Have Rice)'. One of the few originals on the album, the track was inspired by the band's visit to France last summer.
Made up of Australian, French and Cambodian musicians The Cambodian Space Project is a culture-clash of sorts, combing traditional Khmer songs and instrumentation with western rock ‘n’ roll. Accustomed to playing anywhere - from rural villages to boats on the Mekong, from bars in Phnom Penh to an elephants 50th birthday party - The Cambodian Space Project played this years SXSW festival in March and are now brining their very unique brand of psychedelic Khmer-rock to the UK.
UK LIVE DATES
8th September - The Good Ship - London
10th September – Soundway Records Party – London
14th September - Brixton Windmill - London
