FUNDRAISING for the crew of local students heading to Cambodia is well under way.
In December, the Bishop Druitt College Year 11 students will build homes for needy families in Cambodia.
They are aiming to raise at least $22,000 to cover costs and to contribute $1500 for the materials of each house they build.
To reach this goal the students helped out at a Rotary auction raising $750 and held a cake stall which raised $900.
The tally is still coming in for the Red Dog Movie night but the sold out event is expected to raise $2000. The students gave a presentation on the work they are doing and some students who went to Cambodia last year also spoke about their experience.
Donations through the website have reached $2000 and BDC Year 12 students have contributed $2000 to the cause.
BDC student Jock Robinson says they will be selling raffle tickets at Park Beach Plaza in October with prizes from Good Guys, Beatties Manchester and Furniture Nambucca, BCF, Autobahn and BP.
"Our next big push is for the garage sale that we plan will be a major part of our funds," Jock said.
"We are keen to collect as much gear as we can for this cause."
Donations of bric-a-brac, furniture, sports and garden equipment, camping gear, toys and prams etc are needed. Goods gladly received at unit 10 lot 50 Industrial Dr Coffs Harbour or collection can be arranged by emailing Cambodia@bdc.nsw.edu.au or calling 0412284075.
To date they have reached 25% of their fundraising target with two months left.
"All the families have been working hard but particularly the students who have formed work teams. Each team has a 'champion' or leader who are students and they co ordinate the project."
