Prime Minister Hun Sen has called the use of an unmanned drone to fly over Cambodian airspace by unknown nations or groups is an act of terrorism and has called for U.S and Australian assistance in conducting investigation into the crash of this unmanned drone to ascertain whether it was a terrorist act.

On Tuesday 16th August, an unmanned drone had crashed near Mount Kulen, about 70km from Preah Vihear temple. Immediate suspicions were on Thailand, but the Thai authority had denied that the crashed drone is a Thai drone.

Since Thailand had denied it, Mr. Hun Sen said it could be an act of terrorism perpetuated by some terrorist groups. "Since Thailand had denied it and since we don't believe that Thailand is using this kind of unmanned plane to spy on us, so I will focus it on an act of terrorism, because we can't afford to be complacent with terrorist groups that will use all sorts of means to test us. But this is not an attempt to attack us, but it was an attempt to use an unmanned drone as a preparation to launch an attack somewhere in Cambodia or some places in Thailand", he said.

On Tuesday morning, Cambodian authority had found a wreckage of an unmanned plane at North Kulen village, Troyong commune in Preah Vihear province near the Cambodian-Thai border. Seventeen pieces of the wreckage had been collected and a "black box" from the drone had been found and kept for investigation.

The next day after the crash, Thai Minister of Defence Yuthasak Sasiprapha told Bangkok Post that the drone is not a Thai plane.

Who would want to spy on a rag tag army except the thais. Hun Sen, don't think people are that stupid.

From : aerospace engineering Ph.D (MIT)

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) represent the fastest growing and the most dynamic growth segment within the aerospace industry. Although now unmanned aerial vehicles are used mostly in military applications (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions; and combat operations—strike missions, suppression and/or destruction of the enemy and its facilities).

Autonomy is replacing the human operator in many applications. Examples involve military systems where there is some element of danger to the human operator, civilian systems when handling hazardous materials, as well as monotonous operations such as surveillance, reconnaissance and dull, dirty and dangerous missions, such as operations in chemical and biological environments
and in environmental monitoring. The replacement of the human operator in such systems necessitates the development of autonomous systems techniques. Such autonomous systems operate in many environments, such as in the air, in and under water, in space or on the land.

Path planning is a complex problem, which involves meeting the physical constraints of the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), constraints from the operating environment and other operational requirements. The foremost constraint to be met is that the paths must be flyable. Flyable paths are those that meet the kinematic constraints of the UAV. Satisfying this constraint ensures that the motion of the UAV stays within the maximum bounds on manoeuvre curvature. The safety of the path is measured by the ability
of the path to avoid threats, obstacles and other UAVs. The path must maintain collision avoidance with other friendly UAVs and also must be flexible enough to avoid environmental obstacles and threats. Also, additional constraints – such as generating shortest paths, and minimum fuel and energy consumption paths – can be included for better performance and efficiency of the mission.

It looks to me like an old drone from the 6 day war era. One power transistor,a slow blow fuse and few Op Amp chips!
And look at the Molex connectors, the bird was too old to fly!
May be Dr. Marty sent it as an observer but it stray out of its course! I bet this drone was used to monitor the Krokatoa volcano!

Hey, numbnuts 3:50, Krkatoa is in Indonesia not in Cambodia. Six days war era? What? Isreali had drone back then in the 60's? That UAV drone was undoubtedly flew by Thai military. Thai military knows that Cambodia had SAM waiting. If flying a piloted aircraft for aerial reconnaisance(another word, spying) it would be costly, if getting shot down. We all know Thailand is very good at lying, therefore; it will not admitt to owning this UAV. Maybe it was shot down by Cambodian military with Chinese HN-5 portable anti-aircraft missile system. Whatever the case, Cambodia should keep it to study, possibly try to reverse engineer it. Better yet, just hand it over to China to make copy of it. We know China would love to get its hand on this sort of technology.

i think hun sen stll suspect thailand sent the drone, but he didn't want to upset thaksin and the beautiful new thai pm, so he just said it is terrorism. what group in thailand and cambodia has the knowhow to build this drone, only the thai military. this drone can't fly from russia to preah vihear. and if the terrorists want to use a drone to spy to plan the attack, they would not spy in the cambodian jungle for what? to spy on the trees so they can explode a car bomb in the jungle? be real, this drone was sent by the thai military to spy on cambodian troops along the border near preah vihear so it can launch another invasion like in 2008. hun sen must remember, yingluck and the new thai gov. is not in control of the military, the generals and the thai king control the military.

From spy dog to human spy now Thailand went a little bit High tech but not so well designed, Thailand still behind from the rest of the world in technology. From the picture of the wreckage Thailand wanted to design and copy of stealth technology (B2) but don’t know how .

To avoid detection from radar by using stealth technology,Thailand should first understand how radar work, once the principles of radar return are understood, the next step is to determine the overall effect of signature reduction, and how it delivers benefits for tactical mission planning. Radar cross section varies with aspect and with the frequency of the radar attempting to track it.

Both concepts have important implications for netting the tactical benefits of stealth. making a good stealth airplane is a little bit like making a bad transmitting antenna. The sender would receive so much less radiated power that the aircraft’s return signal would fall below the radar’s detection threshold until the aircraft was very close to the radar.

However, lowering radar cross section requires a trade-off between ideal low observable features and aerodynamic performance needed for a aircraft. The goal of low observable aircraft in a tactical environment is to deny timely flow of information about the aircraft’s position, elevation and heading to the enemy’s integrated air defense system. The basic goal of this process is to reduce the range at which different radars in the air defense system detect and track the aircraft.

Radar-absorbing materials and geometry of the airplane play vital roles in stealth technology (Radar-absorbing materials (RAM) are used to attenuate radar waves), it is a good comedy when Thailand try to make or say something that Thailand merely know how and understood the meaning and the fundamental of it.

5:54 PM,Chinese space agencies had more sophisticated technology nowadays than you could imagine and no need for them to study this piece of junk.During the 1973 Yom Kippur war,Israeli had more advanced drone than this junkie. Getting excited over a piece of sh!t? If Thailand used this kind of drone it meant Thailand only have a piece of sh!t.

Does ah Hun Xen have the tool to tracked down and tell which direction the drone is coming from?

Hey, numnuts 7:31PM. UAV has nothing to do with Chinese space agency. That a difference subject. UAV is a hot new latest military toy. What you see there was not some 60's era or older technology junk. There were no UAV in those days. What make you think Thailand would buy some piece of shit junk technology from 6 days war era to spy on Cambodia, if there was one made in those days. That toy there was new, more likely made in America and maybe quite sophisticated. More likely, it was shot down, not crashed. Or shot down, then crashed. Notice the circutboard and wiring connectors, they look pretty damn modern to me. They don't look anythink like 50 years old technology.
