HK's symphony orchestra to perform charity concert in Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong's Vivace Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform a charity concert here on Aug. 14 to raise fund to help underprivileged Cambodian youth.

The concert will be held at the studio of the state-owned National Television of Cambodia (TVK) from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm ( local time) and it will be also live televised on TVK, said a press release from the Simphony Music School, which organizes the event.

Sixteen musicians from Hong Kong's Vivace Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform in the event, they include winners of international music competitions Rhythmie Wong, pianist and violinist, and Melodie Wong, pianist and cellist, as well as members of the Hong Kong Wind Philharmonic including saxophonist Charles Ng and clarinet Florence Lam.

Hun Lak, managing director of Simphony Music School, said the aim of the concert is to raise fund to support the Leadership Character Development Institute, which is a non-profitable institute that teaches Khmer, English and vocational skills to underprivileged youth who have dropped out of the schooling system or are searching for finer work opportunities.

"It's also to exchange and strengthen cultural relations between China's Hong Kong and Cambodia," he said. "All proceeds from the concert will be given to the Leadership Character Development Institute." The admission is free-of-charge.
