[UK's] Abergele couple taking a bouncy castle to Cambodia

AN ABERGELE couple are taking a trip east with a difference.

Jon Brown, 28, and Rhian Davies, 24, will be boarding a train in North Wales on August 11 before arriving in Cambodia more than a month later to deliver a bouncy castle to an orphanage.

Jon explained: “When people go out there they ask for tools or art and craft materials, things they can’t get anywhere there.

“We thought of a bouncy castle which would be amazing for the children as they will have never seen anything like it before.

“We hope they will also be able to rent it out and possibly make some income from it. We got in touch with the charity and they thought it was an excellent idea.”

Both have left their jobs in order to help out at the orphanage when they arrive in Cambodia.

The bouncy castle is being custom-made in the UK and is to be shipped to the orphanage in time for their arrival.

In another unusual twist, the whole journey will be taken by rail.

The two will travel from Abergele and Pensarn station to Beijing, and then on to Vietnam, before finally leaving the train behind and getting a bus to Takeo Town in Cambodia.

“It will be the first time we’ve travelled outside Europe. We thought that by travelling by train it would be much kinder to the environment,” he added.

“We’re keeping it green by not taking any planes.”

When they arrive in September they plan to work with the New Futures Organisation (NFO).

The not for profit organisation runs an orphanage caring for more than 50 children whose parents have either died or are unable to care for them.

“The castle would be a lovely addition to the town playground we are trying to build, plus we could also hire it out at times for parties to raise funds for the orphanage,” commented Neville O’Grady, founder of the NFO.

Jon and Rhian are currently trying to raise the £1,000 it will cost to have the bouncy castle made and shipped.
