PHNOM PENH (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on Tuesday inaugurated the country's first sea-spanning bridge.

The 900-meter bridge, dubbed "Techo Morakat Bridge", connects from the city of Preah Sihanouk to Koh Pos (Snake Island), which is being developed as a high standard tourism destination by a Russia's Koh Pos Cambodia Investment Group Ltd.

The construction, undertaken by Sino-hydro Construction Corporation, cost three years and about 30 million U.S. dollars.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, the prime minister appreciated the company's efforts to build the bridge despite the global financial crisis in 2008 and 2009.

"The development of the island reflects the participation of private sector to boost social and economic development and mirrors the confidence of foreign investors in Cambodian security and political stability," said Hun Sen.

He added coastal Preah Sihanouk province is considered as the country's third economic pole after the capital Phnom Penh and the main destination of cultural and historical heritage areas of Siem Reap-Angkor Wat temples.

"In the future, Cambodia will develop the fourth pole in the country's northeast which has potentials in eco-tourism, agro- industry, and mineral resources exploitation," he said.
