Phnom Penh Capital City Signs MoU with China’s Kunming City

AKP Phnom Penh June 13, 2011 –A Memorandum of Understanding on Establishment of Sister Cities between Cambodia’s Phnom Penh capital city and China’s Kunming city was officially signed last Wednesday in China, according to Phnom Penh Municipality’s website.

A delegation of Phnom Penh city led by Governor H.E. Kep Chutema made an official visit to China. During the visit, H.E. Kep Chutema met with H.E. Zhang Zulin, Mayor of Kunming city and signed the MoU at the Howard Johnson Hotel in Kunming city. The MoU was signed in the implementation of its plan and receiving an approval from the Royal Government via the Ministry of Interior on April 8, 2008.

It was an auspicious event while the efforts to build up good relationship between two cities since 2007 would be successfully accomplished by today’s signing ceremony. This result would realize more achievement that we have planned to continuously cooperate to make these cities as well as their peoples to become closer, said H.E. Zhang Zulin during the signing ceremony.

In reply, H.E. Kep Chutema expressed thanks to the warm hospitality provided to his delegation by Kunming city. Today’s special occurrence would not been happened without the supports of H.E. Leng Chan Virak, General Consul of the Kingdom of Cambodia to Kunming city who was also present to witness the signing ceremony.

At an hour meeting, the two sides described about their own city’s potentials and exchange the point of views among each other. Three main topics in the cooperation such as tourism, trade and logistic, and education and culture were agreed upon by both cities.

At the end of the meeting, H.E. Zhang Zulin disclosed that he planned to take a delegation to visit Phnom Penh in late 2011 . In Cambodia they will cross the provinces of Stung Treng, Preah Vihear, Kratie and Kampong Cham and then Phnom Penh capital city.
