Frontline soldiers wearing flip flops, Hun Sen's bodyguards well-equipped and well-dressed

Mark said...

Thank you Khmer Empire for putting up these pictures. Its great that information are coming out. It's great to see that we are trying to modernize our military. The pictures we get on here are frontline soldiers wearing flip flops. Those pictures you posted are parade pictures. How about the frontline soldiers? I hope this would spark a debate for people to really get involve.
Wasn't brigade 70 was involve with force eviction?

Hello Mark,
Your question is whether brigade 70 involved with the force eviction and plight of our people? That is a fair question and deserved to be answered by an expert in the government.
But I will chime in my opinion here.
The answer is yes. Brigade 70 is widely known as Hun Sen's most loyal bodyguard. They are the elites; the best of the best among all Cambodian military divisions. So if the answer is yes, why are we glorifying them? Simple, Soldiers have the discipline and duties to obey the commands and orders from the head of the government and so forth. They have sworn to defend the interest of Cambodia including sea, land, and air. That's their jobs.
If they refused the orders, what would happen to them and their families? They would be court marshalled and possibly get killed themselves. Look at the example of the Khmer rouge soldiers, if they didn't carry out the orders, they would be killed on the spot.
If the order from the top not to evict the people, I'm quite sure that order would be carry out 100% by the soldiers. I don't want to get off the subject of "Khmer soldiers are combat ready."
I do have front lines pictures too, but because of the limitations of space, I'm not able to post them. But the resources are plentiful. you can Google Khmer soldiers with pictures. I'm you can get many pictures. God bless Cambodia, our soldiers and our people.

Khmer Empire brought up a good point in answering the question. Often, people see who is doing the job and criticize those guys while the reality is someone else is usually responsible for that action.

Armed forces units have the responsibility to carry out command by superior or the court verdict. This is the real world. It ain't rainbow and sunshine all the time. Sometimes, you just have to do it because it's your job, despite how much you may object to it.

While it may not seem like it, there are many Armed forces and security personnel that have their ethics and integrity well inside them but life circumstances don't always let you have the cake and eat it too.

You correct about their orders. Those are legitimate excuses but should start to change. They should not forget that they are also there to protect the people. They should not forget their morals.

Khmer Empire

You should have posted the frontline photos instead of the parades. Those are just for shows.

Legitimate or not, one can always find excuse for his or her action. What I'm really getting at is that in life, you are sometimes caught between a rock and a hard place where self-interest and moral values are at conflict with each other.

You can't always do the right things but what you can try is to have some kind of justice in your accumulative action. Something I heard while sitting with some of the armed forces people of our country.

Cambodia is not a perfect place and I don't think anyone claims it to be. But, we've come pretty far, if you're not cynical enough to see it. Like many others agreed upon, improvement is needed.

If you watch the news from khmerlive.tv and such, you notice there has been reforms to clean up the country, literally and metaphorically.

You can be happy with how things are and still strive for better things. Change doesn't have to come from negative energy.

How did Cambodia eliminate all factional forces and become one again? It was through the forgiveness and reconciliation program to reintegrate all opposing sides back into one society and one blood.

That's a Chinese Hong Ying HN-5B MANPAD(nan-portable air-defense systems). It's among the smallest SAM system use by the military in the world. It's a low-altitude SAM similar to American's General Dynamic FIM-43 Redeye or the Soviet 9K32M Strela, codename SA-7A Grail by NATO. I believe that a HN-5B, a more advance version. Matter of fact, HN-5B is a reverse engineered of Soviet's 9K332M, with many upgrades. Nevertheless, Chinese is has one too. It's probably equivalent to the American's FIM -92 Stringer or the Russian's KBM IGLA-S. Hong Ying HN-5B range is up to 2.5miles, can reach altitude up to 1.5miles. It's good for shooting down helicopters or other low flying aircrafts.

Ok, these picture found on internet? I really many countries will not shown the real force that they have. Why show your enemy what you got? I am half convince that we are combat ready; however when it comes to war, ready or not we got to fight and we will fight. We will fight will sling shot for crying out loud. I seen some progress on Cambodian army and we have to give them credit; don't be too hard on them. Cambodia is poor country, we cannot buy weapons and don't put food on the table. we just need enough to defense ourselves. We are not invading any body. Khmer want to live in peace and work to support our families. Glorifying how many soldiers, combat ready, how many weapons will only get us into arm race. arm race is old trick that China, Russia, North Korea and others games, we need economic race not war. On that note; I really appreciate The Great Khmer Empire research to defense Cambodia's stand. It proves that the government is aware of the both arm ourselves enough to defend the country and continue its work on economic development.

Guys, I'm happy to see people are debating very politely and in a civilized manner here. We should just concentrate on the topic discussion, rather than personal attacks that have been seen in previous exchanges. Keep up like this and we will learn something from many views expressed here.

These are obsolete/junk equipment by today's world military standard. No question about they can kill and give destruction, but can not win the full scale war if the other side has bigger army, more modern weapons, discipline,
and determination to win even with less experiences.

A case for thought, during Angkor Wat period, Khmer today always proudly told the world that the Khmer troops had tremendous power/strength, no army in the region could march with the Khmers. The history revealed that how many times that Siamese had ransacked Angkor and went all the way to Longvek (Udong). The Siamese general beheaded the Khmer king Head/his generals and used the blood to clean their feet. During the fighting at Longvek, the Khmer army had put up the stiff resistance for almost a year, killed at least 8000-10000 Siamese troops but had lost the war at the end. Remember that...

Mark,
I don't know why you labelled military personnel carrying out their orders, rightly or wrongly, an "Excuse." I failed to see your logic.
Politics aside, militaries aound the world have one thing in common: to protect the interest of their nations. So anonymous 22 June 2011 2:34 pm is correct in that military is the instruments of politics. Politicians make policy. The military enforce that policy. Of course, all of us, including our soldiers have moral ethics and are emotionally attached to the country they served. However, when you enlist into the military, you are part of an organization of fighting machines. If you want to protest whether to enforce or not enforce the orders to evict people, then you go into politics, not military branch. Do you see the differences, Mark? I don't mean it to be simplistic, but I don't see it any other way. It's a totally difference philosophy when it comes to military and politics.
In addition, many people see everything as one organization. It's not entirely true. When military leadership disagree with political leadership, you have a "coup" as in the case of Thailand.
Now, the Thai military have embellished themselves with all kinds of good stuff from their over-hyped military hardwares to better uniforms to eating good fresh foods daily and painted a picture of goody-goody thai military. Give me a break. What I see is a show-offs. It's a propaganda used by them. It will not change our troops position.
I will post front line pictures at another post as the comments section doesn't permit me to do so.
Our military as it is presently constituted, is good enough to defense and repel any would be enemy invasion. We simply don't have enought pictures and information other the one that they want to show us. It doesn't mean that they don't have them. As the country progress, so do our military. Stay positive, and keep everything civil. God bless Cambodia, our soldiers and our people.

Best Regards,
The Great Khmer Empire

That Mark needs to go to the border to see those troops with his own eyes. I would put out any picture for him. While he there, at the border, he should give away some of his hard earned money and he can keep his thongs.

Stop crying. Your best response is attacking. Stop being a keyboard bullying. Nothing wrong with having a debate. If you cannot engage in one with a civil manner, stay out.

Why won`t you go to the border to take pics for me? Sorry ,giving out money is a short term solutions.

Take your damn pictures! I'm serving you.

I suggest you go to the border that not keyboard bullying. Only closed mind think so.

My mind is fully open. Instead of countering me with some facts. You instead tell me to go to the border. If khmerization and KI Media are posting false news. You should blame them not me.

Khmerization I blame you for providing me with false news about our country. The real news are on government websites and affiliates.
