The chairman of the World Federation of Liberal International who is also a EU MP demanded that the Phnom Penh regime allows Sam Rainsy (pictured), the SRP President, to return home so he may participate in the 2013 general election. The EU MP asked that the Phnom Penh regime put into application the 1991 Paris Peace Agreements on Cambodia, and that it brings in election reform.
On Tuesday 21 June, CPP MP Cheam Yeap warned that Sam Rainsy can return back to Cambodia only if he stops defaming the Phnom Penh regime, otherwise, Sam Rainsy will face jail.
Cheam Yeap’s warning came after the chairman of the World Federation of Liberal International, who is also a powerful EU MP, demanded that the Phnom Penh regime allows Sam Rainsy to return to Cambodia so that he can safely join the election.
Sam Rainsy, who is currently living in self-exile on Paris, France, fled arrest against him by the Phnom Penh regime after the court sentenced him to more than one decade of jail for criticizing border problems with Vietnam. Cheam Yeap added that Sam Rainsy can return back to Cambodia, but he must face jail time first if he does not soften his stance against the government.
Cheam Yeap: “There are two choices that he can request. Like before, Sam Rainsy saw his immunity removed so that he may face jail on numerous occasions, but he was freed because the king put into application 2 cases: either the king has the right to pardon and lighten this sentence or the NatAss (National Assembly) has the right to pardon him.”
The request by the chairman of the World Federation of Liberal International was made during the Liberal International’s (LI) 57th congress held in the Philippines between 16 and 20 June. Sam Rainsy is himself a member of LI and during the congress, he proposed the formation of a federation to remove dictatorships. Sam Rainsy indicated that Hun Xen rules for the past 32 years, and he added that the majority of dictators are involved in crimes and impunity.
Cheam Yeap added that, even if Sam Rainsy is sentenced, Phnom Penh did not ask other countries to arrest him and send him back to Cambodia because Phnom Penh is indulgent to the opposition leader.
On Tuesday, Kimsour Phirith, SRP spokesman, was hopeful that international warning will push Phnom Penh to allow Sam Rainsy to return back home. He added that Phnom Penh did not ask for a return of Sam Rainsy because it does not want to see the opposition being able to get involved in politics in Cambodia.

Sam Rainsy should be arrested for treason. The interview he did with Thai's TV by giving greenlight to Thailand to go ahead invade Cambodia and kill our Cambodian soldiers. I am pissed everytime I watch the interview. Cambodia cannot let this man running around without accountability. You cannot ask the king to pardon you again and again. I wish the king did that to other ordinary citizens that is suffering in jail. Why is he so special? Because he is very good opportunist and good lying? Look at the picture he pretended to do farming with the farmers while he was on his cell phone rolled up his white dress shirt. Is that farming? He never sat foot in farming. Who is he trying to kidding? Come on, he is such a fake and people didnt see it. This man is a con artist and good saleman.

I am in favor of democracy but you got to understand national interest over personal political gain. Sam Rainsy doesnt offer solution to help rather go around helping Thailand with their propaganda. In America, you will be prosecuted for treason if its citizen does that while USA at war with that country.
Sam Rainsy tried to protect Khmer territory in Chantrea district, Svay Rieng province and he was sentenced to jail term for protecting Khmer land? Only a traitor like Hun Sen and his traitorous government would punish a patriot like Sam Rainsy, so Hun sen and his traitorous clique should be tried for treason and executed.
Farmers and villagers on the Viet border are crying everyday because Hun Sen's government allowed Vietnam to encroach into their rice fields and farmland. So, it means Hun Sen is a traitor for allowing the Viet foreigners to take and steal Khmer land.
