Cambodia Calls For Peaceful Resolution Of Disputes

Sompong Sanguanbun (L) met PM Hun Sen on Monday 13th June, 2011.

PHNOM PENH, June 14 (Bernama) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen called on Thailand to cooperate in resolving bilateral border dispute issues through peaceful negotiations.

"A well-established cooperative ties serves as an important basis for the two countries to address their current border dispute issues, Hun Sen told the Vietnam news agency after meeting with the new Thai Ambassador to Cambodia Sompong Sanguanbun on Monday.

During the meeting, Hun Sen said that the two countries need to cooperate within the framework of ASEAN towards building the ASEAN Community by 2015 and that he was optimist about prospects of reaching this objective.

While, the new ambassador pledged to work with the Cambodian Government to restore and strengthen relations between the two nations.

In recent years, relations between the two countries have become tense due to disputes round the 900-year-old Preah Vihear Temple, causing exchanges of fire between the two countries' troops.

The root of the cause was coming from Thailand. Cambodia tried every avenue of seek peace. Bi-lateral talks and negotiation only lead to clashes. It was already proven not to work. Thailand childish political manuever is getting bore. Maybe Thailand is getting bore of itself of trying to outsmart Cambodia. Cambodia is on the right, so anything Thailand trying make wrong out of right only have negative reflection on Thailand. Since Thailand started this problem from the beginning, it's Thailand who must do the dirty work to clean it up. It will be Thailand responsibility to make good of any relationship left with Cambodia.
