Thailand to elaborate temple row with World Court on May 30

BANGKOK, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs will elaborate the Preah Vihear Temple issue with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on May 30 after Cambodia sought an interpretation of the ICJ's 1962 ruling on the temple case.

Information Department Director-General and Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Thani Thongphakdi announced that Thailand will clarify the temple row with the ICJ on 30 May. He expected that the ICJ will let Thailand and Cambodia present written information again within September or October.

The ICJ awarded the Hindu temple to Cambodia in 1962; however, the ownership of 4.6 square-kilometre disputed land surrounding the ancient ruin has been claimed by both countries.

Thani said the interpretation of the verdict might take about 1- 2 years to complete; therefore, the Cambodian side asked the ICJ to issue a temporary measure ordering Thai side to have its troops withdrawn from the disputed zone for the time being.

Asked if interpretations of the ICJ ruling will affect the planned registration of Preah Vihear Temple as world heritage site, Thani replied that the World Heritage Committee should postpone the consideration of the unilateral management plan proposed by Cambodia to avoid further conflicts.

The spokesperson added that the Thai government had appointed a panel to fight the court case led by Thai Ambassador to the Netherlands Virachai Plasai who will act as Thailand's representative in the procedure.

The 900-year-old temple of Phra Vihear has often caused border tension between Thailand and Cambodia. Sporadic clashes between the two countries took place occasionally. The latest conflict which erupted near the 11th-century Ta Muen Thom and Ta Kwai temples on April 22 and lasted for 13 days claimed at least a score of lives on both sides and forced some 100,000 residents to seek shelters.

Thailand supported Japan to invaded Burma and Malaya

On December 8, 1941 Phibun regime allowed Japanese to access through the country for Japanese forces invading Burma and Malaya. Phibun assured the country that the Japanese action was prearranged with a sympathetic Thai government. Later in the month Phibun signed a mutual defense pact with Japan. Pridi resigned from the cabinet in protest but subsequently accepted the nonpolitical position of regent for the absent Ananda Mahidol.

With the supported from Japan, Thailand declared war on Britain and the United States in January 1942, but the Thai ambassador in Washington, Seni Pramoj, refused to deliver the declaration to the United States government. Accordingly, the United States refrained from declaring war on Thailand. With American assistance Seni, a conservative aristocrat whose antiJapanese credentials were well established, organized the Free Thai Movement, recruiting Thai students in the United States to work with the United States Office of Strategic Services (OSS). The OSS trained Thai personnel for underground activities, and units were readied to infiltrate Thailand. From the office of the regent in Thailand, Pridi ran a clandestine movement that by the end of the war had with Allied aid armed more than 50,000 Thai to resist the Japanese.

Phibun was rewarded for close cooperation with Japan during the early years of war with the return of further territory that had once been under Bangkok's control, including portions of the Shan states in Burma and the four northernmost Malay states. Japan meanwhile had stationed 150,000 troops on Thai soil and built the infamous "death railway" through Thailand using Allied prisoners of war.

History had shown that Siem/Thai had always attach itself to any rich and power nation to enhance its strenght. Siem allied with the Mongols to attack and invade Burma after Burma captured Ayuttaya. During the European colonial era, Siem appeared very fond and adopted much of the influences from England, which was a very rich and powerful nation having great wealth and colonies throughout the world. With this as colateral, Siem/Thai was able to grab some large chunk of land in the south from Malaysia. Siem also attempted to sweet its deal with Japan in WW2 after seeing Japan counquered most of the land in Asian continent. With Japan as its backbone, Siem/Thai attempted to retake Khmer territories lost during the Siem/Franco agreement almost four decades prior. Now, Siem is kissing up to America to earn love and effection. What nasty about it is, anytime Siem attached itself to those rich and power nation, Siem/Thai becomes very arrogant and start pushing and bullying its neighbors for the sake of enlarging its territory. This is the attitude of the Siem/Thai
