Party politics
A Sam Rainsy Party lawmaker plans to send a letter to Prime Minister Hun Sen on Thursday requesting that Foreign Affairs Minister Hor Namhong be removed from his post over the recent diplomatic efforts regarding the border conflict with Thailand.

SRP lawmaker Chea Poch (pictured) said yesterday that Hor Namhong had displayed “weak” diplomatic skills. “I would like the government to consider removing Hor Namhong,” Chea Poch said.

He added that during recent border fighting, no one in the international community had released a statement recognising Cambodia’s victory at the International Court of Justice in 1962 and ASEAN observers had not arrived to investigate the conflict.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Koy Kuong said yesterday that the SRP’s request would not be successful.

“I have not seen any points where we are weak,” Koy Kuong said, adding that Cambodia had previously approached the United Nations Security Council and had also requested that the ICJ expand upon the 1962 ruling.

I am absolutely agree with MP Mr. Chea Poch requesting the removal of Mr. Hor Namhong from his current post as Foreign Affairs Minister represents our country. With utmost respect, I think he is a very respectable man, he has compassion and devotion toward our country, and have served our country for many years, we all should be very thankful for his service to our country.

On the other hand, at this day and age, our country constantly facing many obstacles and issues involving anything from economic development, infrastructures development, and a very hot issue of territorial encroachment by our neighbors.

Yes, we do need someone younger, intellect, experience, articulate of international language of English to be able to express, persuade, and argue on behalf of our country on the international stage, we need someone in command in all matters with all foreign affairs.

Most countries in the world that successfully represents their respective country are very intelligent in all fields including academic, diplomatic, politic, and language skills. We can not communicate with the world through a language translator, the world will not respect us.

True, during the fighting, hor namhong did not make much diplomatic activities, very quiet. with such a large-scale fighting and intensified bombardments by thailand, the international community would have reacted strongly if hor namhong made more diplomatic noises, but he was so quiet. shame on him.
