AKP Phnom Penh, May 27, 2011 –A delegation of the Lion Group Malaysia has been in Cambodia to seek the investment opportunity in planting rubber and setting up a rubber processing factory in Cambodia.
The delegation led by its Chairman and CEO Mr. Tan Sri William Cheng Heng Jem was received here on May 25 by H.E. Chan Sarun, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
During the meeting, H.E. Chan Sarun, briefed the delegation on Cambodia’s rubber plantation sector. Some 400,000 ha has been given license as economic land concession for rubber plantation and there are 43,000 are exiting rubber plantation invested by local companies, Vietnamese, Chinese, South Korea, American, and Malaysia, he said.
In 2020, Cambodia’s rubber plantation is expected to reach 300,000 ha, while its rubber products are also expected to increase to 100,000 tons for export by 2015, he added.
The Lion Group Malaysia is one of the biggest companies in Malaysia that invest in steel and furniture with some US$4,000 million in capital.
