Woman files ACU complaint

The wife of a former Funcinpec secretary of state is set to file a complaint to the Anticorruption Unit today accusing 29 government officials of stealing and conspiring to sell 13 hectares of land in Kandal province in 1998 that had previously belonged to her husband.

In the complaint, dated May 6 and obtained by The Post yesterday, Chea Kim claims that the land in Sa’ang district once belonged to former Interior Ministry secretary of state Ho Sok, who was killed during factional fighting between Funcinpec and the Cambodian People’s Party in 1997.

Among the accused officials was Prak Savuth, former Kandal provincial deputy governor and now Kratie provincial council chief, to whom the Supreme Court awarded the land on April 21, overturning a 2007 verdict in favour of Chea Kim.

“I would like his Excellency Senior Minister in charge of anticorruption to please convict 29 perpetrators of stealing and conspiring to sell land and receiving stolen property,” the complaint said.

Prak Savuth said yesterday that any decision was in the hands of the courts.

ACU officials could not be reached for comment.

Judicially, you'll need to charge these alleged perpetrators initially, and then the judge and jury may render their decisions whether to convict or exonerate the alleged persons who are implicated on this case.
