Two Cambodian fishermen faced a death sentence after charged with murder of a Thai skipper

Bernama- A Malaysian court has charged two Cambodian fishermen with the murder of a Thai skipper. If convicted, they could face the death penalty.

KUALA TERENGGANU, April 17 (Bernama) -- Two Cambodian fishermen were charged in the Magistrate's Court here Sunday with murdering a Thai skipper in Malaysian territorial waters last month.

Brothers, Arifin Salleh, 27, and Kadir, 25, from Dombei Komprecho, Cambodia, are charged with murdering Phat Phetpuk in a fishing boat in Malaysian waters at about 1pm last March 27.

The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death sentence upon conviction.

However, no plea was recorded after the charge was read before Magistrate Siti Faraziana Zainuddin, who then fixed May 18 for mention.

Meanwhile, Kadir was also charged in the Sessions Court with attempting to murder Thai fisherman, Visak Phonet, at the same place and time.

No plea was also recorded.

Judge Zainal Abidin Kamaruddin set May 18 for mention. For full article here.

In the past, many Cambodian fishermen have been maltreated, tortured and murdered by Thai boat owners and skippers.

The Malaysian court should investigate the way these Khmer fishermen were treated by the Thai skipper. They were probably trafficked, treated badly and were forced to work in slavery-like conditions. The Cambodian embassy in Malaysia should hire a good lawyer to defend them and claim self-defense for killing the Thai skipper.

Dombei Komprecho, where is that district or village in Cambodia ? And those names Arifin Salleh and Kadir are they Khmers?
Does Dr. Gaffar Peang-Meth
recognised these surnames ?
We should extend our support if they are our real minority Khmer Islam and not Thai-Malaysian who faked nationality.

Thai and Cambodia
Cambodia and Thailand have the border issue for long time from generation to generation Thai have ideological Khmer is lower class and unintelligent people not only Cambodian Lao people also got the same perception as khmer .
Thai would say why should we submit to the lower class people we only take from lower class people , one Thai intellectual I quote " why we always think another people is dumb an uneducated we the one that dumb uneducated people most of them turn out to decent people why Thailand is belong to Thai king is old tradition and only uneducated people think this way Thailand is belong to every Thai not the king don't come and shoot I am die soon" .
A lot of Khmer hope Thaksin return the border issue will be solved not so fast it may die down for a while Thaksin not dare to do it why don't thaksin solve the problems when he's in the office if thaksin dare thaksin will be label as an traitor .
Preah Vihear belong to Thailand is embedded in Thai brain unless Cambodia able to attack in two fronts military and diplomacy and have the intervention from UNSC otherwise the issue never solve.

12:54 PM,
If Thai keep digging deeper and deeper they will stuck in the hole and will die from the lack of oxygen. Well they could use tall ladder and drop oxygen hose into the hole ! But my point is what good will Thai get? Before this Preah Vihear event, the world hardly take notice of Khmer. Now next year or so the movie the "Great Khmer Empire" will be available worldwide. And how the image of Thailand going to be look like? Remember Thailand is the co-founder of ASEAN and will the year 2015 is realistic for ASEAN to be integrated economically?.It's impossible if Thai continue to act like this. I am an open minded Khmer guy, I still love Thai people dearly. I still revere the Majesty Thai King and admire the Mohachakri Surindhorn for her generosity toward Khmer especially Khmer students.
Khmer and Thai should live as good neighbor and cooperate at every levels. Unfortunately politicians cause a lot of trouble for their personal short term benefit. It's impossible for me to appeal from this blog to Her Royal Highness Mohachackri to help diffuse this stupid conflic between Khmer Thai. Last year inspired by Thai scholar I voiced in this blog that Thailand should add 4.6 Km2 or bigger from Sisaket to this existing disputed land, so the combined area should set aside and become Thai-Khmer Friendship park. But no,nobody cared to comment on it and conflict had intensified.

THAILAND THE WORLD RECORD HOLDERS ON COUP MAKERS
"Thai army is like a racehorse, and governments are merely jockeys who come and go," said Privy Councilor Prem Tinsulanonda, a former army chief and Prime Minister, during a speech to cadets in July 2006. "The [military's] owners are the nation and the King. Under Thailand's constitution, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, a constitutional monarch, is commander in chief, although he does not appear to involve himself directly in military affairs.
The military has staged 18 successful coups since 1932, when a group of army officers and intellectuals overthrew the last absolute monarch. Since then, the military has ruled overtly or has influenced politics from behind the scenes.
Soldiers, however, were still meddling in politics. According to poll monitors, military officers have interfered in just about every election since 1992. Military personnel are part of the patronage networks of leading politicians, whose influence they rely upon to advance their careers in the armed forces. This provides incentive for soldiers to try to influence political outcomes.

The Thai army sees itself as an honest and selfless force for developing the nation and a moral counterpoint to corrupt politicians, according to Chris Baker, co-author of A History of Thailand. This conveniently ignores a long history of corruption within the military and abuses of citizens' rights. But unlike Western democracies, in which power is divided among executive, legislative and judicial branches, Thailand has long relied on a balance of power among several institutions, including the legislature, the bureaucracy, the monarchy and the military
Armed with this view, the military seemingly does not regard itself as beholden to the nation's elected leaders. The army has rejected orders from four different Prime Ministers to quash demonstrations against their rule — at the start of the Asian economic crisis in 1997, during street protests against Thaksin in 2006, in 2008 when protesters occupied the Prime Minister's office and, most notoriously, that same year when Bangkok's international airports were shut down by demonstrators in order to force Thaksin-allied Prime
Ministers from office. Some believe the army refused to act because it did not want blood on its hands from saving politicians, which would revive the black stain on its reputation from May 1992, when dozens were killed. Others believe the army's inaction was intended to advance its own political interests.

Following Thaksin's ouster, the army clearly has become more involved in politics, despite ceding overt power to elected politicians after little more than a year. It played a key role in Abhisit's rise to the premiership, helping to broker deals among politicians who had been loyal to Thaksin so they would join Abhisit's coalition. The generals also used their troops to break up Red Shirt riots in April 2009 &may 2010 result in 91 were killed in Bangkok aimed at ousting Abhisit. Among the military's rewards have been large increases in budget allocations under Abhisit's administration and few questions about purchasing irregularities.

Abhisit: I am your Prime Minister.
Woman Peasant: Well I didn't vote for you.
Abhisit: You don't vote for Thai Prime Ministers nowadays.
Woman Peasant: Well how'd you become Prime Minister then?
The inside reliable source said Abhisit is surrounding with a group of yes sir you're the Prime minister people and Abhisit alway remind everybody he's prime minister .
The reality is Abhisit is just a puppet unable to make any real decision and any decision have to come from privy council and privy council have to council the King ( not quite the queen actualy the King is old and confuse and housing in hospital ).
One source say " if the head order the tail have to act" but in Abhisit is not the case.
Abhisit is riding on the tiger back and unable to get off he might get eaten alive and may spend his time after political caree in jail .

Hi 4:34 PM, I'm 3:56 PM.

Regarding Thai military I am optimistic that its role is exemplified in the whole SE Asia. When you're big and powerful all you need more is the respect and love from others. ASEAN will have Thai military as our backbone for whatever our regional need may arrive be it like disaster relieve mission or combat against piracy etc..
Thai military has firm sacrificial record of helping fight against extremist terrorist worldwide,it's among the NATO member. It's the only one for our ASEAN and ASEAN could not find any source of pride more than this.
Preah Vihear conflict, or more appropriately I would say its surrounding land conflict is very regretful detrimental source for both Khmer and Thai relationship. The sooner we solve it the better healing will proceed. Khmer Thai or Thai Khmer whoever you want to mention first are like siblings because both share the same culture. We used the same word but pronounced it slightly different, Buddhist is our main source of our value and so on and so forth.
I don't know, I'm just a one ordinary Khmer guy who wish that whoever has the power to make good thing, good life happen between Khmer Thai should start the noble task now and I want to see ASEAN
come true in my life time.

Thailand is not professional as it uses reports to fuel hatred and misinformation within the Thailand&Cambodia issue. The media in Thailand is considered to be news spinners that drive people to take action against Cambodian people These people are easily led astray because of the misinformation and the manner in which certain news items are reported. The current conflict with Cambodia is due to the disinformation spread by the media and right wing PAD .
Many from Thailand's media industry are connected to powerful tycoons and politicians, and these professionals work for these powerful people giving a lopsided view on the events taking place within the issues and further fueling discontent.
Today, the country is facing a lot of political turmoil and that is why there is a need for the media to work in a constructive manner.

It not the first time that khmer killed their Thai boss ,khmer working in thailand get pay 30% less than Thai local workers and have to work longer hours than Thai workers this how it work take it or leave it when you desperate for money your family back home depend on you there is no question ask some Thai employers not pay for few months and than they call the police to arrest khmer workers when they know khmer workers living illegally in Thailand this how the Thai employers do from time to time.
To any employees if they get decent pay get a good treatment from their boss why they kill their boss risk of going to jail for life when employment that not easy to find since complication of Preah Vihear issue local media incite resentment forward Khmer after the the clashed 4/02/2011 Thai TV 3 ask the local villages chief to look for any Khmer workers at the clash area and report to the Army because they suspected there is some khmer spies in the area because Khmer cold war rockets hit the targets .
