A COMMUNITY fair at a small country town is not something that would normally create much of a stir.
But the Easter Fun Fair at Dean on Saturday was a fair with a difference, a fair that would actually save the lives of a number of children.
For the second year the Kids 4 Cambodia fair was held at the Dean Hall & Mechanics Institute, with the sole purpose of helping a local couple save the lives of orphaned and abandoned Cambodian children.
Husband and wife Dr Andrew Clift and Dawn Cornish founded The Children’s Sanctuary in 2007 which helps orphans in Siem Reap, in north-western Cambodia.
Dr Clift works tirelessly in outback Australia to raise money to keep the sanctuary running and Mrs Cornish attended the fair on Saturday, which she said was a great show of support from the local community.
“It’s thrilling to see the community get together to support a country that needs so much assistance,” she said.
Last year more than $4000 was raised from the event and Mrs Cornish called for anyone who could sponsor a child to dig deep.
Mel and Dolores Quinlivan sponsor fire- year-old Sana and Mr Quinlivan said it was “the best thing I’ve ever done”.
Event organiser and The Children’s Sanctuary secretary Lyn Lea said support for the event had been overwhelming and would improve a number of children’s lives in the impoverished country.
