A popular Cambodian comedienne failed to appear at court yesterday over fraud allegations stemming from the disappearance of five luxury vehicles.
Kry Sok Y, deputy prosecutor of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, said that comedienne Chuon Chan Ratana (pictured), also known as “Neang Ka'oy”, was summoned to court after being sued by Phnom Penh businessman Koam Chanmony.
The allegations are connected with five luxury cars he rented to her.
The cars are said to have disappeared after she allegedly rented them out to other customers.
“She was accused of fraud after losing five cars from Koam Chanmony and she was summoned to appear in court today to explain about her case, but she did not come.
“I think that her activity shows that she does not respect the court, he said.
Kry Sok Y claimed that future action to secure the celebrity’s appearance in court would be taken this week,
“We requested her presence in the court, so I will issue a second summons letter for her tomorrow and ask her to come to the court by the end of this week,” he said.
“If she doesn’t come to meet me again, I will take further legal action against her or I will decide to officially charge her with fraud,” he added.
Yesterday, the well-known Cambodian figure explained that she did not attend due to previous commitments.
Choun Chan Ratana said that the reason she did not appear in court was because she took part in a Chinese funeral ceremony known as “Cheng Meng” with her family at a pagoda in Phnom Penh. “I did not come to the court because I was busy with my family celebrating Cheng Meng for my parents,” she said yesterday.
