A senior Cambodian military officer has claimed that 20 Thai soldiers were killed during clashes with Cambodian troops in four locations early this morning at Choup Koki village, Thmor Daun village, Ta Krabey and Ta Moan Thom temples in Oddar Meanchey province.

The same officer said that Cambodian troops had found 20 dead Thai soldiers, but the Thai side had told Cambodian side that only 2 of their soldiers were killed. The Cambodian claim has not been independently verified.

Kampuchea Thmey also reported that the Thai side only admitted that 2 of their soldiers were killed and 7 wounded, but it quoted Cambodian frontline soldiers as saying that 12 Thai soldiers were killed: 7 killed during the fighting at Ta Krabey temple and 5 were killed during the clash at Ta Moan Thom temple.

Gen. Chhum Socheat, spokesman for the Cambodian foreign Ministry, said during a press conference that the clashes that started at 6 a.m this morning have not stopped yet at 1:30 p.m this afternoon because Thai troops continued to push into Cambodian territory by ground force with the firing of Thai artillery DK-75, DK-82, DK-105 and DK-155 milimetres in support, many rockets had landed 21 kilometres deep inside Cambodian territory.

He said that Prime Minister Hun Sen had ordered Cambodian troops to defend Cambodian territory at all cost and not to retreat. He also said that clashes started when a group of Thai soldiers attempted to move in to occupy Ta Krabey temple at 6 a.m and started firing at the Cambodian troops first.

I think both sides had suffered high casualty, but the Cambodian claims are not independently verified, so it's not credible. During the fighting on 4-7 Feb, Deum Ampil quoted Gen. Chea Dara as saying that 32 Thai soldiers were killed, but no one or no evidences to back up that claim. At the end, people only believed that the Thai claim only one Thai soldier was killed.
