The Cambodian Express News (CEN) has reported that the Thai cabinet has on Tuesday approved a 2000 million Baht ($66.7 million) budget appropriated from a secret budget for the creation of a new tank regiment and one new ground force division for the deployment to the north and northeast of the country near Preah Vihear temple.

According to sources, this tank regiment will be deployed in the northeast province of Khon Kaen and will become the third tank regiment. The creation of these two army units was advised and initiated by Privy Councillor Prem Tinsulanonda, who is the supreme advisor to the Thai king and a former general of a tank regiment.

This new tank regiment is a new intervention force for the Thai Second Military Region based a long the Cambodian-Lao border.

Thai Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan told the cabinet on Tuesday that the at first stage 300 million Baht will be spent to create the new tank regiment. After that the cabinet will request the government to allocate 70,000 million Baht ($2.34 billion) for the arming of this newly-created Intervention Division for the next 10 years.

The Thai cabinet had also approved another 2000 million Baht budget for the creation of the 7th Division for the deployment along the Thai-Burmese border. This new army division will be deployed in Chiangmai or Chiang Rai to support the Thai Third Military Region.

The spokesman for the Thai Foreign Ministry said the creation of these two army divisions is in response to the needs to boost up Thailand's border security. "These two extra army divisions are necessary for the current security situations at a time when we don't have sufficient troops for the new confrontations", he said.

If Burmese, Laos, Cambodia have decided to attack the Thai and the 3 fronts and the extremist from the South, there is nothing that the Thai military can do but the run for their lives. I don't want war, because it killed too many innocents people. However, if the Thai policy don't change quickly they will be facing war at all front of which they cannot afford. This will plunge their economy for good.

Thailand is provoking the war with its neighboring countries. As far as i'm concerned, Thailand is very rich and has a large number of people. It may want to send its people to die and spend money to destroy itself. May you success in your plan. God bless you and your sinful deeds.

I sense insecurity from Thailand. Thailand doesn't need to feel threaten by its neighbors. I don't know why all of sudden it starts to beefing up the defenses, from who? Thailand is facing many enemies. Like Isreal which is a little brat of America as Thailand is a sweet little whore of America and the west. One thing these two have in common is, they have enemies waiting for the right opportunity to slit their throat. Whatever the case Thailand, beefing yourself up too much might only make a stew out of you.

Cambodia should have bought plenty of javelin anti-tank guided missile instead of chinese made...

The best way for Cambodia is to armed itself with tanks, heavy and long-range artillery, but especially fighter jets. If the American F-16s cost about $35 million each, then the Chinese and Russian fighter jets could cost much less. I think Cambodia can afford at least 10 of them, or even more.

Cambodia need the most high tech Missile to take down the damn planes, that's all we need...Don't rely on those FN-6 from china, they are useless! I suggest we buy more BM-30 to team up with BM-21, that will give cambodia a strong ground troops!!
