According to credible sources, Mr. Mao Monivann, a Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) MP from Kampong Cham has been preparing documents for his resignation as an MP for the Sam Rainsy Party. The sources did not say what prompted Mr. Mao Monivann's planned resignation, but there are rumours in the past that he is not happy with the SRP's planned mid-term rotation of the MPs' parliamentary term proposed by the leadership of the SRP which required him to step aside and make way for his colleague on the candidate-list next to him. Under the plan, serving MPs would step aside and make way for the candidates next on the candidate-list who missed out from being elected MPs in the 2008 election.
The sources said that Mr. Mao Monivann's resignation letter has not been tendered to the party yet, but said he would tender it to the party on 30th March as he has promised to party activists from Kampong Cham, especially Mr. Nou Pisakha.
Mr. Yim Sovan, MP for Phnom Penh and spokesman for the SRP, told Reaksmey Kampuchea that he is not aware of Mr. Mao Monivann's planned resignation.
