Charity ride across Vietnam and Cambodia

khodgins | Blog, Cycling Plus | 14/03/2011

Despite the fact that I still have an arm in a plaster cast following my unfortunate run in with a pigeon, I’ve signed myself up for a second charity challenge this year… a five-day 400km ride across Vietnam and Cambodia raising money for The Genesis Research Trust!

The charity itself is headed by Professor Robert Winston who we interviewed for issue 244 of Cycling Plus. The prof takes part in many of the charity rides himself and also contributes to the groundbreaking work done at the Imperial College in Hammersmith Hospital, to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the range of conditions that affect women and babies. This includes female cancers, stillbirth, miscarriage, premature birth and genetic diseases.

This Sunday I headed to Imperial College to meet some of the people taking part in the ride and find out more about it. The itinerary sounds amazing, as does the charity and the women who have taken up the challenge who, in many cases, have very personal reasons for doing so.

I am so excited to be part of such an exciting and worthwhile challenge, as well as having even more incentive to get training again (once the claw is fixed of course!!)
