For those in Phnom Penh, Meta House on Sothearos Blvd is hosting a seminar this week on Cambodian history featuring Dr. Bernd Schaefer, a senior scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center in Washington, D.C. The seminar, titled "Cambodia and the World (1965-1992)" will be held from Monday to Wednesday, 8AM to 11 AM and 2 PM to 5 PM, with lunch served, and is being presented in cooperation with the Documentation Center of Cambodia. It will focus on the successive periods of influence by North Vietnam, the United States, China, unified Vietnam and finally the international community during the UNTAC period.
According to a press release from Meta House, discussions will feature "original sources from Western and former communist archives to demonstrate in five sessions to what extent Cambodian governments subsequently came under dominant influence of" these various foreign governments. The five 2.5 hour sessions will start with a 30-minute lecture before moving to questions and group discussions analyzing primary sources.
