Thanks to Lim for providing this link. With "The Australian" newspaper has just reported that a Melbourne man has just been stopped by Australian authority from selling Khmer stolen artefacts on Ebay, I'm a bit suspicious that the two Angkorian-period statues on sale on Sotheby's might be stolen as well. The two artefacts on sale by Sotheby's are of high price. One is a statue from Koh Ker period and is on sale for 2,000,000-3,000,000 USD (2-3 million USD). The other one is a Shiva sandstone statue from Baphuon style and is on sale for 300,000-500,000 USD (300 thousand to half a million US dollars).

The Cambodian government should try to contact Sotheby's and ask them to verify whether the artefacts are stolen or were legitimately owned by the seller(s). However, these are priceless artefacts so they should not be in possessions of private collectors, but should be in the national museums of the countries.
