US undecided on UN, urges Thai-Cambodia restraint

US urges Thai-Cambodia restraint, undecided on UN

WASHINGTON (AFP)— The United States called Monday for Thailand and Cambodia to show restraint after four days of cross-border fighting but took no stance on Phnom Penh's bid for UN involvement.

The United States has "raised our concerns with senior officials" in both Thailand and Cambodia, State Department spokesman Philip Crowley (pictured) told reporters.

"We continue to urge both sides to exercise maximum restraint and take all necessary steps to reduce tensions," he said.

Crowley said that the United States was "undecided" on whether the United Nations should be involved after Cambodia called for urgent action by the Security Council.

"We are discussing the best way forward within the Council," Crowley said.

Brazil, the president of the Security Council for February, said that members voiced "great concern" about the situation.

Thailand has called for a bilateral solution and criticized Cambodia over "internationalization" of the conflict, according to diplomats.

Each country has accused the other of provoking the violence near the disputed 11th-century Preah Vihear temple, which has claimed seven lives and displaced thousands.

How the f!*k do I get the feeling that America is being "See no evil, Speak no evil, and Hear no evil" about Thailand agression toward Cambodia. Thailand is American's little whorehouse, of course America is being bias. If this was the other way around, America wouldn't waste any time in calling up an emergency meeting among the 5 UN Seccurity Councils to protect Thailand. Since Cambodia at this moment is a little nobody. All the big and power nations just can't seem to be able to help resolve this little issue of Thailand aggression. If only Cambodia contain rich deposit of oil like Kuwait or Iraq, Thailand or Saddam Hun Sen wouldn't be able to touch little Cambodia. It's all comes down to, "You scratch my back, I'll scratch your back." This is disgusting to me. It's all has to do with who is your connection. If you're more connected to America, you got help from America. As far as UN, America created the UN. So UN is as spinless as America in helping resolve this bullshit issue created by Thailand. Do you see why it is necessary for Cambodia to choose China as a partner, instead of America? Thank a lot more nothing, America.

The US will try not to get deeply involve in this conflict. So far it maintains neutrality toward both Thai and Cambodia. The US will ask the regional key players like ASEAN to intervene and solve the problem instead. The US is fully aware of the milking of the situation for political purposes and gains. The US will then closely monitor if Thai not listen to ASEAN she will have to face yet another level of justice. There is local police, state police and federal police. Let Thai calm down and be a responsible person capable to stand trial first otherwise she will plead insanity.
In the mean time the US wants to see a steady progress and an improvement of Human Rights in Cambodia. The US focuses on bigger picture, longer term effects and can not let emotion to play in decision making.

I don't think emotion has anything to do with America hesitation to get involve to stop the fight between Cambodia and Thailand. Isn't that America using emotion to make its own judgement? Cambodia's Human Right and democracy does not apply to the issue of Thailand aggression toward Cambodia. Human Right and democracy is Cambodia's internal issues that is in no way related to Thailand attacking Cambodia to take back Preah Vihear. America would lose a lot of credibility according to the eyes of the world, if America's emotion is being played against Cambodia base on America's own interests. Those interest would be the spreading democracy and Human Right. I say that would deserve a call for a foul ball on America.

Ref:"If only Cambodia contain rich deposit of oil like Kuwait or Iraq,..."
It's not about oil! Believe me! It is not about oil! It's about POWER! Power as in the New World Order! That is all these power elites have on their mind...24/7!
Thats what all the G8 or G20 or G whatever, Summit meetings are all about. Obama, Clinton, Bush, Gordon Brown, Jimmy Carter, Zbigeniew Brzinsky,...every one of those sorry bastards want to control every aspect of our lives! They're embedded in most of our colleges and univerisities especially the likes of Harvard and Yale. Those top univeristies accept millions of dollars from the Saudis to help and try to re-write history from the Islamic point of view...this is all documented! believe me! it is not about oil!

Don't you think American is behind the Thai invasion Because they the one drawn the map.
Don't you think American gave Thai the green light to invade Cambodia
Don't you think that American let Thai army killed Khmer refugee

The disputed territory was a map drawn by Thailand and agreed by American in the 1980's during the time when Cambodia was busy fighting Vietnamese occupation. This is why Thailand insist on using the map drawn by Thailand that contain the disputed territory, not the Siemese-Franco agreement sign by Siem(Thailand)and France(Cambodia's colonial ruler back then)in 1907. Cambodia was not aware of this secret deal between Thailand and America with the sacrafice of Cambodia territory. We could say that America is also play a role that lead to this clash. If America hadn't agreed to allow Thailand to make claim as part of disputed territory, Thailand wouldn't be able to make reason to wage war with Cambodia. And I must make it clare, that Thailand true interest is not the disputed territory. It's Preah Vihear that it desperately wants. Whatever the situation was back in the 80's, Thailand motive was to scoot itself closer to Preah Vihear. Thailand had fooled America to let Thailand claimed that dispute territory so later on in the future, this dispute land can be used gainst Cambodia to reclaim Preah Vihear. A clever tactic by Thailand, but only a sneaky and a dirty theif would resort to that. This is probably why many Thai pride their kings as being smart throughout its history. I don't know if anyone beside Thailand call that smart.

Anyway, America must step in to take the responsibility to rectify this problem immediately if America want to stop the fighting so more lives won't be lost on both side. This is very much explain why Thailand has been so cunning to being very aggressive to wage war with Cambodia. Thailand knows it can get away with anything as long as America has its backing. This is why ASEAN and UN seem a little hesitant in jumping in to resolves this issue.
