Unesco to visit Thailand this Friday : Panithan

But they will not be permitted to visit border

A Unesco team will visit Thailand this Friday to collect information concerning the Thai-Cambodian disputes over Preah Vihear Temple, Government spokesman Panithan Wattanayakorn (pictured) said Wednesday.

However they will not likely be allowed to go to the border as situation there is still tense and sensitive, Panithan said, adding the government will evaluate the situation again.

Unesco had already informed the Thai side that its team will come to Bangkok on Friday and it will meet Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suwit Kunkitti and Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya on the same day.

The team would likely meet Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva later.

Thai and Cambodian had clashed at the border near the disputed areas of Preah Vihear Temple earlier this month. The Thai army insisted that Cambodia opened fires on them, forcing them to retaliate.

Three Thais were killed and buildings and schools in Si Sa Ket's Kantaralak district were destroyed.
