Renewed clashes between Thai and Cambodian troops along the disputed border forced thousands of villagers in Chong Jom border point in Surin to evacuate.
Reports said the Thai army told villagers in Chong Jom in Surin's Kap Choeng district to flee to safety after more Cambodian soldiers had been deployed near the area.
The Army Region 2 had been instructed to be fully prepared for war as the situation might escalate to Surin.
Thai soldiers had been instructed to remain calm as they could fall into the Cambodian army's trap, reports said.
Chong Jom market administrator Pattana Chuenyong said Cambodian traders may have to return to their country until the situation returns to normal.
