Indonesia's Defense Ministry is preparing to send an observer team to the border between Thailand and Cambodia, to oversee the implementation of a recently agreed on truce between the two conflicting neighbors.
“We're preparing observers for both sides,” Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said Wednesday in Jakarta, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
It was reported earlier that Thailand and Cambodia had agreed on a truce and had asked Indonesia, the current chair of the ASEAN, to mediate the border conflict between them.
Indonesia has welcomed the request, and Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa on Tuesday said the Indonesian government would send an advanced team to make “initial observations”.
