A CHEAP POLITICIAN: Abhisit´s reasons behind war against Cambodia

By Pang Sokheoun
Originally posted at: The Son the Khmer Empire

This border war between Cambodia and Thailand has nothing to do with the protecting Thai sovereignty but the political
interests for a group of selfish and nationalism elite persons, especially, the Democrats in Bangkok. This war is motivated because Abhisit hopes :
  1. to make himself looks like a strongman and gain popularity from this war against Cambodia.
  2. to unite Thai people to continue to support his weak government and win the next election in April as he has already made an appeal to Thai people to unite for the war against Cambodian border recently.
  3. that the war will surely avert Thais attention from their daily hardship, social issues and injustice, and the government´s incompetence to deal with the Southern daily violence .
  4. that this war will draw media attention from the PAD´s daily protest against him in Bangkok and to reduce its influence.
  5. to appease the extremist PAD, Thai Patriot Networks and Asoke Group who are protesting against him in Bangkok to resign from power and to show them that he has the same goal as them particularly the PAD against Cambodia even though he rejects the other three points demanded by PAD.
  6. being bullied, Cambodia will have no choice but submitting herself to Thai demand.
  7. to justify its invasion and previous mistakes by trying to play as a nice guy through its propaganda to the world again and again that Thailand will never invade its neighbors and just respond and will respond proportionally to the attack.
  8. to have the reason to block the next meeting of WHC for Prasat Preah Vihear management plan.
  9. to destroy the whole temple if Thailand can not have it or share it with Cambodia and let the WHC to remember this.
  10. to take a chance to test Thailand´s inexperienced military forces in the hope that if Thailand can beat the very experienced but poorly equipped-weapon Cambodian soldiers then Thailand will surely have more confidence in dealing conflicts with its other neighbors.
  11. to strengthen Thai nationalism ideology and propaganda since 1930s against Cambodia.

And Abhisit doesn´t want to have the third party involved in the resolution is because of:

  1. Thailand is being viewed by international communities as the bully, the invader and condemned for its aggression.
  2. Thailand again will lose face like it was in 1962.
  3. Thailand has no international recognized evidences to back up its claim.
  4. Thai leaders will lose a chance to use Cambodia as political scapegoat for their internal political conflicts which can always help ease its internal confrontation against each other.
  5. Thailand hopes that it can bargain with Cambodia if this done through bilateral framework no matter how much it gets better than nothing and losing face again.

Let´s see how long this war will go on and if Abhisit really benefits from this war as stated above. And I do hope that Hun Sen has waked up from this border war and stop entertaining this destructive political game toward our country and people

It would be of interest to get your views regarding the role, if any, that Hillary Clinton and/or Barack Obama is playnig in this fracas. For example: What is the official position coming out of the White House. Are they playing neutral? And do the Cambodian people have any faith in Obama? I don't...

I don't want to be involved in politics!! But, we (Cambodians & outsiders) all know very well the situation btw Cambodia & Siam (Thailand)!!! Siam only uses Cambodia (Preah Vihear temple) as a pretext for the sole purpose of their own internal political fighting. Those PAD labels themselves as strong nationalism but the real truth is to gain Power, to be the King!! While Abisit has had no choice but to provoke the war again & again to keep himself hanging to power, won't be long!! What a pity, I really feel sorry for him with all the intense pressure working as a puppet PM!!

Exactly what Obama and his ilk want... to be king of the world, backed bt the Muslim Brotherhood!
And that's the REAL TRUTH!

He is too much obsesses with power losing all the virtues, integrities, qualities,...as a well-educated man!!! All Siamese people know well about the situation!!! How could Cambodia, a less developed or honestly weaker country, try provoking war with Siam? All the nations in the world could easily sees this. However, ASEAN, USA,...they all just looking for the more profitable side. Finally, foreign relation is all about geopolitics = either economic or power reason! The ASEAN & USA is having a much greater benefits with Siam thus give up justice, Cambodia. Sick!

The White House will try not to get deeply involve in this conflict. So far it maintains neutrality toward both Thai and Cambodia. The US will ask the regional key players like ASEAN to intervene and solve the problem instead. The US fully aware of the milking of the situation for political purposes and gains.
If Thai not listen to ASEAN she will have to face yet another level of justice. There is local police, state police and federal police. Let Thai calm down and be a responsible person capable to stand trial first or else she will plead insanity.

Why are we continued to do the analysis on behalf of the Siam of the reasons of the attack? This is so pathetic on our parts, the Thais are laughing at us, we should be analyzing the strategic plans to really defend our sovereignty, how are we going to get the money to purchase military equipments and to really recruit more soldiers and to support them in every step of the way, just like the Thai government support their troops, e.g. set up medical care facilities, medical transportation, doctors and nurses, and volunteers to assist the injured soldiers.

We need to STOP thinking of reasons why the Thai government attack us, I MIGHT CAN TELL WHY THEY ATTACKED US, BECAUSE THEIR GOVERNMENT DO WHAT THEIR PEOPLE DEMANDS AND FOR THE BENEFITS OF THEIR COUNTRY AND THEIR PEOPLE, THAT'S WHY.

The reality is, we are being attacked by the Thais, they want to take and control the entire area including the Prea Vihear Temple. THE ULTIMATE QUESTION IS, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT THAT?, AND WHAT IS OUR CAMBODIAN GOV'T GOING TO DO ABOUT IT.

Never going back to the bilateral mechanism again. We gave the chance for the benefit of the doubt already and we have shown our goodwill. So mobilize all our capable forces, put order for more weaponry, we will need it anyway. Unite all political parties, set aside political differences, put all men and women to work for our own nation sake. Give Sam Raingsy work to do. And if Hun Manet prove capable of chasing Thais out let him do it. Most productive year of great achiever are late 20 and earlier 30. I will fly from US to joint you guys too,I do not need salary or rank. But you guys have to unite first.

Storm'n Norm'n, Thailand is the U.S's darling in Asia the same as Israel is the U.S's darling in the Middle East. Whatever happened, the U.S will be behind Thailand in this dispute, all the way. Read here for the U.S's position on the current Khmer-Thai conflict: http://khmerization.blogspot.com/2011/02/us-undecided-on-un-urges-thai-cambodia.html

Thank you Anonymous,
Ref:"Whatever happened, the U.S will be behind Thailand in this dispute, all the way."
Yes, I figured that would be the case. What I'm concerned about is that Obama will figure out some way to have this skirmish escalate. Also, Obama is a coward and will always get somebody else to do his fighting...right now he is doing that in Cairo, Egypt.
