A Cambodian cargo vessel sank in waters off Ulsan, about 400 kilometers southeast of Seoul, at around 6 am Wednesday, killing at least four people, Yonhap News Agency reported.
Two lifeboats belonging to the sunken ship were discovered in the East Sea off Ulsan at around 12:16 pm, Yonhap said, citing the Ulsan Coast Guard, and one Russian crew member on board was rescued by the coast guard.
The coast guard also recovered four bodies of those who are assumed to be foreign crew members of the sunken ship.
The stern of the 1,500-ton vessel with 12 crew members hit an unidentified large vessel at around 6 am when it was heading to Ulsan after departing Pohang, the Ulsan Coast Guard said after investigating the rescued Russian crew member.
A search operation involving a helicopter and seven patrol ships has been launched by the coast guard as seven crew members remain missing.
